Prosthetic Treatment of Transposed Maxillary Canines using a Highly Conservative Tooth Preparation Technique

Diagnostic Evaluation
The 14 year old boy with chief complaint of esthetics. (fig. 1)

Radiographic Exam Revealed:
Descending transposed maxillary canines
Loss of the maxillary central incisors (fig. 2)

Intraoral exam post orthodontic treatment showed:
Bilateral transposition of maxillary canines to the central incisor position.
Spacking of the anterior teeth (fig. 3)

Prosthetic Treatment
A diagnostic bisacryl (Luxatemp Flouresence Zenith/DMG) was cured and the esthetics/phonetics were assesed.
With the bisacryl mock-up in place, the tooth preparation was completed to the ideal depth for porcelain veneers and an all ceramic crown. (Fig. 4)

This preparation technique is driven by the final restorations to avoid unnecessary tooth reduction, thus it is highly conservative. (Fig. 5)

Definitive porcelain veneers and an all-ceramic crown (IPS e.Max; Ivoclar Vivadent) were fabricated and cemented using a dual cure resin cement (Nexus 2: SDS Kerr) according to the manufacturer's reccomendation. (Fig. 6)
